It has a hinge on the side and opens up to the gilt pierced out floral design grill. When opened up it reveals the original sponge inside.

Weight - 5.8gms (0.18 troy ounce).
This little vinaigrette is in great condition. It opens and closes well and the hinge is a tiny bit very slightly loose. The grill opens securely and sits upright. Overall, there are hardly any marks on it at all.
