Edwardian Solid Silver Vesta Case & Holder, Birmingham 1906
A superb Edwardian Vesta case which is made in all solid sterling silver. It has a scroll leaf pattern engraved on both sides. There is a shield shaped cartouche on the front which has two engraved initials reading EC in an old script font. It has a rounded edge and beaded border. There is the usual serrated match striker panel underneath with a gilt finish inside. This also has a sterling silver leaf scroll patterned cigarette holder which fits neatly inside the Vesta case, it has a plain cartouche with space for engraving.
It measures 4cm x 4cm x 1cm when closed.
It has a full British hallmark on the inside edge for Birmingham 1906.
The maker is H.W.LD (probably Henry Williamson Ltd).
It weighs 25.9gms (0.8 troy ounce).
The condition of this Vesta case is excellent. The hallmark are still very clear to read. The inside is marked and worn but this is due to it being a secondhand piece and being used for many years. There is a small dent on the top left rounded corner just above the hinge. There is also a small split on the end of the cigarette holder. Overall, a really good quality antique piece.
Please study all of the photographs as they are a true reflection of condition.
